The Suffolk County Fire District is proud to welcome Commissioner Barz as its new Chief Fire Marshal. Commissioner Barz was sworn in at the Suffolk County Fire District Officers Association installation dinner last night in Villa Lombardi. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as district chief in the Virginia Beach Fire Department and led special operations, personnel and development, communications and information technology, finance and budgeting, resource management, research and analysis, accreditation and training. Commissioner Barz has a master's degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk (Virginia). He graduated from the Executive Fire Officers Program of the National Fire Academy (200) and is a peer evaluator for the International Fire Accreditation Commission (CFAI).
He has also been appointed fire director (CFO) by the Center for Excellence in Public Safety. In collaboration with the Hauppauge Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners, Commissioner Barz will host the district's fourth monthly community meeting at our facilities tonight. Tonight's speaker is the commanding officer of the SS, C, P, D Arms Licensing Section. The district's fire company or companies constitute the fire department of the fire district. The fire department is led by a chief and a deputy chief or chiefs. On April 25, Commissioner Barz gave a course on fire extinguishers for Will-Bar International employees at Cabot Court, in the Hauppauge industrial park.
This was his first official event as Chief Fire Marshal of Suffolk County.
